Course Update

Well, the weather hasn't been great but it has been nice enough to green things up a little bit. The fairways and greens have been mowed and are starting to green up quickly. It's hard to gauge at this point how much winter damage there is on the greens, but overall they look pretty good. We will be mowing the teeboxes, collars, and approaches tomorrow. I will be making some changes to the collars around the greens. Instead of the usual one even pass around every green, I will be varying the collars to the contours of the greens. I think this will help many of us with our short game around the greens. Intead of chipping from a few feet off the greens, you may be able to get up and down with only your putter. ;)  Tim and Chuck did a very nice job trimming up the branches on all of the evergreens throughout the course. Not only will this make mowing around them much easier, but it will also make it easier for golfers to play their balls from underneath. We will be tackling the ponds later next week. This will include cleaning out leaves, garbage, and cattails. We will also be moving rocks back up around the upper edges. After that we will be hauling in dirt to build up a small embankment around them and plant new grass.

Remember, it is still the beginning of April and we do live in one of the most unpredictable regions for weather. If we don't mow the greens for a couple days it is probably because they are predicting snow or extended periods of cold weather. It is going to take a few weeks of warm weather (above 60) for the grass to perk up and grow regularly. We will not be doing anything overly aggressive to the greens until the air and grounds temps rise above 60.

Be patient and enjoys this early start to the season!

PS...Don't forget about the Ripoff tomorrow night (Tuesday, April 3rd)! Come on out and play some golf, enjoy a few beverages, have an awesome meal, and maybe win some new clubs! Everybody is welcome! Bring all your friends and get them signed up for their 2012 membership!
